How to Make Egg Fritters

Egg fritters are a delicious and easy-to-make snack that’s perfect for tea time or as a side dish. Crispy on the outside and soft and flavorful on the inside, these fritters are packed with protein and taste. Here’s a step-by-step guide on how to make egg fritters at home.

Ingredients

  • 4 boiled eggs
  • 1 cup gram flour (besan)
  • 2 tablespoons rice flour (for extra crispiness)
  • 1 small onion (finely chopped)
  • 2 green chilies (finely chopped)
  • 1 teaspoon ginger-garlic paste
  • 1/2 teaspoon red chili powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon turmeric powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon garam masala
  • Salt to taste
  • A handful of coriander leaves (finely chopped)
  • Water (as needed to make batter)
  • Oil (for deep frying)

Instructions

Step 1: Boil and Prepare the Eggs

  1. Boil the eggs for 8-10 minutes until hard-boiled.
  2. Let them cool, then peel the shells.
  3. Slice each egg into halves or thick round slices, depending on your preference.

Step 2: Prepare the Batter

  1. In a mixing bowl, add gram flour and rice flour.
  2. Add turmeric, red chili powder, garam masala, and salt.
  3. Mix in chopped onions, green chilies, ginger-garlic paste, and coriander leaves.
  4. Gradually add water to form a thick, smooth batter. It should be thick enough to coat the eggs.

Step 3: Heat the Oil

  1. Heat oil in a deep frying pan over medium flame.
  2. To test if the oil is hot enough, drop a small bit of batter into the oil—if it rises and bubbles, it's ready.

Step 4: Fry the Fritters

  1. Dip the egg pieces into the batter, ensuring they are fully coated.
  2. Carefully drop them into the hot oil.
  3. Fry until golden brown and crispy on all sides.
  4. Remove and place on paper towels to drain excess oil.

Serving Suggestions

Serve the egg fritters hot with green chutney, tomato ketchup, or tamarind sauce. They pair well with a cup of hot tea or as a crunchy side to rice and curry.

Tips

  • You can add grated cheese or boiled potatoes to the batter for a twist.
  • For extra crunch, sprinkle chaat masala on top before serving.
  • To make them healthier, try air-frying or shallow-frying instead of deep frying.

Enjoy your crispy and flavorful egg fritters!
